Permanent recruitment

Permanent Registered Manager recruitment

Long-term leadership appointments, matched to the needs of your service and its regulatory requirements.

The wrong appointment is more expensive than the vacancy

A permanent Registered Manager shapes a service for years: the culture, the staff turnover, the inspection outcome. Appointing someone who cannot carry that means doing the whole process again, usually from a worse position.

The temptation when a post has been open for months is to appoint the best of a thin shortlist. A better shortlist is the answer, and that takes a proper search rather than a faster one.

  • A strong manager reduces turnover across the whole team
  • A weak appointment shows up in your next inspection
  • A thin shortlist is a search problem, not a market problem

How we help

A search built around your service

Before we advertise anything we want to understand the service: its size, its regulated activity, its current rating, the team the new manager would inherit and the things a candidate will ask about. That conversation is what makes the difference between a shortlist and a pile of CVs.

We then approach candidates directly as well as advertising, because the strongest managers are usually in post and not looking.

  • Briefed properly

We take the time to understand the service before searching, so candidates arrive informed rather than curious.

  • Direct approach, not just advertising

The best managers are rarely on a job board. We approach them.

  • Screened against your setting

Experience in a comparable service and regulated activity, not just a matching job title.

  • Support to start date

Offer, notice period and onboarding are where appointments fall over. We stay involved through them.

Candidate profile

The managers we put forward

What we look for before a candidate reaches your shortlist.

  • A track record of running a CQC-regulated service, or deputy experience and genuine readiness to step up
  • The relevant management and care qualifications for your setting
  • A candid account of their inspection history and what they changed as a result
  • A reason for wanting this service, not just any service
  • References covering recent employment, requested from the employer directly

The process

How recruitment works

Three steps, and you will know where things stand at each of them.

  1. Step 1: Tell Us What You Need

Provide details about the role, service and urgency.

  2. Step 2: We Identify Suitable Candidates

Candidates are reviewed against the requirements and relevant compliance criteria.

  3. Step 3: Interview & Placement

You meet suitable candidates and proceed with the preferred appointment.

Compliance

Evidence that stands up to inspection

For a permanent appointment the file matters as much as the person. We agree the checks your setting requires before we begin and keep you informed of exactly what has been verified.

  • Identity verification

Confirming a candidate is who they say they are, using original documentation.

  • Right to work in the UK

Checking a candidate’s right to work in line with Home Office requirements.

  • DBS checks

Enhanced DBS disclosure appropriate to the role, including Update Service status where a candidate is registered.

  • Employment references

References covering recent employment, requested directly from the employer rather than the candidate.

  • Professional qualification checks

Verification of the qualifications a role requires, including management and care qualifications.

  • NMC verification

    Where applicable

Register checks with the Nursing and Midwifery Council for roles requiring a nursing registration.

  • HCPC verification

    Where applicable

Register checks with the Health and Care Professions Council for registered health professionals.

  • Setting-specific requirements

    Role dependent

Any further checks the setting or its CQC-regulated activity requires, agreed with you before we begin.

Frequently asked questions

If your question is not here, ask us — we would rather answer it properly than have you guess.

Do you recruit permanent Registered Managers?

Yes. Permanent Registered Manager recruitment is one of our two core services, alongside interim appointments. We approach candidates directly as well as advertising, because the strongest managers are usually in post and not actively looking.

How long does a permanent search take?

Longer than interim cover, because the appointment matters more and the strongest candidates have notice periods. Rather than quote a figure, we will give you a realistic view once we understand the service and the package.

Will you advertise our vacancy publicly?

That is your call. Some providers want the role advertised; others would rather it were handled discreetly, particularly when the current manager is still in post. We will do it either way.

Do you recruit deputy managers stepping up to Registered Manager?

Where it is genuinely the right move, yes. A strong deputy ready for their first registered post can be an excellent appointment, but it has to be a considered decision rather than a way to fill a gap, and we will be honest with you about which it is.

What compliance checks do you carry out?

Screening can include identity verification, right to work, an enhanced DBS check, employment references, professional qualification checks, and NMC or HCPC register checks where a registration is required. Which of these apply depends on the role and the setting, and we agree them with you before we begin.

Can you recruit outside London?

We are London-based and most of our work is in the capital. We do take enquiries from elsewhere in the UK, and we will tell you honestly whether we can support the role properly before you commit any time to it.
