Registered Manager recruitment

Registered Manager recruitment in London and across the UK

Interim and permanent Registered Manager appointments for care homes, domiciliary care and supported living providers.

A vacant Registered Manager post is not a normal vacancy

A Registered Manager is the person CQC holds accountable for the quality and safety of a service. When the post is empty, the pressure is immediate: the registration, the inspection rating and the confidence of your staff and families all sit on it.

Meanwhile the shortlist is small. Experienced managers are rarely looking, the ones who are get approached constantly, and a bad appointment costs more than the vacancy did.

  • A gap in registered management can put your registration at risk
  • Strong candidates are passive and need approaching properly
  • A rushed appointment usually becomes a second vacancy

How we help

Two routes, depending on what your service needs

Most providers come to us in one of two situations: they need someone capable in post quickly while they recruit properly, or they are ready to make a permanent appointment and want it to be the right one. We handle both, and we will tell you honestly which we think fits.

  • Interim Registered Managers

Experienced managers who can take on a service at short notice — covering absence, a resignation, or the period while you recruit permanently.

  • Permanent Registered Managers

Long-term appointments, screened against your service, your team and the regulatory requirements of the setting.

  • All care settings

Residential and nursing homes, domiciliary care, supported living and specialist services.

  • Honest shortlists

We would rather send you three candidates we can speak for than ten we cannot.

Candidate profile

The managers we put forward

What we look for before a candidate reaches your shortlist.

  • Experience running a CQC-regulated service, or deputising in one and ready to step up
  • A clear account of their inspection history and what they did about it
  • The relevant management and care qualifications for the setting
  • An understanding of the regulations that apply to your regulated activity
  • References from recent employment, requested from the employer rather than the candidate

The process

How recruitment works

Three steps, and you will know where things stand at each of them.

  1. Step 1: Tell Us What You Need

Provide details about the role, service and urgency.

  2. Step 2: We Identify Suitable Candidates

Candidates are reviewed against the requirements and relevant compliance criteria.

  3. Step 3: Interview & Placement

You meet suitable candidates and proceed with the preferred appointment.

Compliance

Verification before appointment, not after

A leadership appointment has to stand up to inspection. We agree the checks a role requires with you before we start searching, and we are explicit about what has been completed and what is still outstanding.

  • Identity verification

Confirming a candidate is who they say they are, using original documentation.

  • Right to work in the UK

Checking a candidate’s right to work in line with Home Office requirements.

  • DBS checks

Enhanced DBS disclosure appropriate to the role, including Update Service status where a candidate is registered.

  • Employment references

References covering recent employment, requested directly from the employer rather than the candidate.

  • Professional qualification checks

Verification of the qualifications a role requires, including management and care qualifications.

  • NMC verification

    Where applicable

Register checks with the Nursing and Midwifery Council for roles requiring a nursing registration.

  • HCPC verification

    Where applicable

Register checks with the Health and Care Professions Council for registered health professionals.

  • Setting-specific requirements

    Role dependent

Any further checks the setting or its CQC-regulated activity requires, agreed with you before we begin.

Frequently asked questions

If your question is not here, ask us — we would rather answer it properly than have you guess.

How quickly can you provide a Registered Manager?

It depends on the setting, the location and the terms on offer. Interim cover is usually quicker than a permanent appointment because those candidates are available by definition. Rather than quote a timescale we cannot stand behind, we will give you a realistic view of your specific role once we have discussed it.

Do you recruit interim Registered Managers?

Yes. Interim appointments cover absence, a resignation, or the period while you recruit permanently. We look for managers who have run a regulated service before and can be accountable from day one.

Do you recruit permanent Registered Managers?

Yes. Permanent Registered Manager recruitment is one of our two core services, alongside interim appointments. We approach candidates directly as well as advertising, because the strongest managers are usually in post and not actively looking.

Which care settings do you recruit for?

Residential and nursing homes, domiciliary care, supported living and specialist services. If your service is unusual, tell us about it — we would rather say we are not the right fit than waste your time.

Can you recruit outside London?

We are London-based and most of our work is in the capital. We do take enquiries from elsewhere in the UK, and we will tell you honestly whether we can support the role properly before you commit any time to it.

What compliance checks do you carry out?

Screening can include identity verification, right to work, an enhanced DBS check, employment references, professional qualification checks, and NMC or HCPC register checks where a registration is required. Which of these apply depends on the role and the setting, and we agree them with you before we begin.
